Medicine that draws upon nature – simply referred to here as green medicine – prevents and treats diseases by providing the body with the essential substances it needs to function properly and by mobilizing its natural defenses. It is represented by vitamins and vaccines, which have reduced or defeated many serious diseases. Synthetic drugs, created by humankind, become necessary when natural defenses are no longer sufficient. They relieve suffering and can save lives, but ultimately the body itself must regain control. Because diseases originate within us before they manifest externally. And it is within us that they must be faced and resolved. This book explores precisely these themes.
The first part explains what medicine is in general terms, one of the most significant yet least understood expressions of our civilization. The second and third parts compare green medicine with synthetic medicine, showing how their paths sometimes diverge and sometimes converge. Two further sections examine the power of the placebo effect and the rigor of scientific evidence, followed by two tangible examples of green medicine.

Bruno Silvestrini is a physician, pharmacologist, and academic, regarded as the creator of innovative drugs distributed internationally. Recognizing the crisis of synthetic medicine triggered by the thalidomide tragedy, he founded the Department of General Physiology and Pharmacology of Natural Substances at Sapienza University of Rome – which later appointed him Honorary Professor of Pharmacology by ministerial decree. Through this work, he helped free natural-origin medicine from the prejudices of the scientific community. It was there that the ideas and projects were developed that his son, Luca Silvestrini, is now carrying forward through the company “The Professor’s Remedies.”
