La ricerca di un significato nella Vita è un bisogno naturale ed un istinto insopprimibile dell’Uomo: a tal proposito, la Grecia del V e IV secolo a.C. lascia in dote a tutta l’umanità una formula magica, i cui ingredienti sono: la meraviglia, la razionalità, l’onestà intellettuale. Il pensiero umano tenta poi di rispondere alle domande radicali della filosofia, intrecciandosi coi grandi e piccoli eventi storici che si svolgono nei secoli, influenzandoli e contemporaneamente ricavando da essi nuovi spunti. La storia dell’Europa cristiana è dunque creata dall’Uomo-filosofo, il quale scrive pagine esaltanti ed angoscianti, esercitando così pienamente la sua libertà, ma confidando anche in una benevola Provvidenza. Entrando nella modernità, proprio in concomitanza col potenziamento di tutte le sue facoltà pratiche, l’Uomo europeo matura però dubbi sempre più gravosi, che via via lo scoraggiano dall’affrontare questioni universali e dal credere nell’esistenza stessa di verità oggettive. Si rintana così in un presente individualistico e si illude di poterlo “vivere al massimo!”, confidando solo in se stesso. Oggi l’Uomo ha quindi più che mai il bisogno vitale di ritrovare quel salutare spirito antico, non temendo di confrontarsi con la conoscenza del Passato ed aspirando a costruire un Futuro migliore, senza sprecare il suo Presente: deve infine recuperare il realismo di una dimensione comunitaria con tutte le sue implicazioni.
L’intento del presente saggio è quello di ricostruire – con spirito scientifico, ma anche con la passione per le narrazioni cavalleresche – vicende storiche inaspettatamente istruttive per noi Uomini del Terzo Millennio: quelle relative al territorio che dal 1130 al 1860 è stato progressivamente denominato Regno di Sicilia, due Regni di Sicilia, Regno delle Due Sicilie. Questa storia italiana, purificata dalle incrostazioni ideologiche che le conferiscono colpe meritevoli di dannazione, interroga chiunque abbia il sacro fuoco della passione civile sui grandi temi della Pace, della Giustizia, del Progresso e della Libertà.
Mario Bellotti è nato nel 1975, milanese d’adozione ma nato a Pompei e formato nel liceo di Sanremo. Ingegnere elettronico e head-hunter di professione. Sposato con tre figli, è un cattolico di recente conversione. Il senso di una storia è la sua prima pubblicazione.

The search for a meaning in Life is a natural need and an insuppressible instinct of Man: in this regard, Greece of the fifth and fourth centuries B.C. leaves in dowry to all humanity a magic formula, whose ingredients are: wonder, rationality, intellectual honesty. Human thought then attempts to answer the radical questions of philosophy, intertwining with the great and small historical events that take place over the centuries, influencing them and at the same time drawing new ideas from them. The history of Christian Europe is therefore created by the Man-philosopher, who writes exhilarating and distressing pages, fully exercising his freedom, but also trusting in benevolent Providence. As he entered modernity, exactly at the same time as he strengthened all his practical faculties, European man became more and more onerous in his doubts, which gradually discouraged him from dealing with universal questions and from believing in the very existence of objective truths. In this way he withdraws into an individualistic present and deludes himself that he can “live it to the fullest!”, trusting only in himself. Today more than ever, Man has the vital need to rediscover that healthy ancient spirit, not fearing to confront the knowledge of the Past and aspiring to build a better Future, without wasting his Present: he must finally recover the realism of a community dimension with all its implications.
This essay intends to reconstruct – with a scientific spirit, but also with a passion for knightly narratives – historical events that were unexpectedly instructive for us, Men of the Third Millennium: the events related to the territory that from 1130 to 1860 was progressively called Kingdom of Sicily, two Kingdoms of Sicily, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Purified from the ideological incrustations that make it deserve a damnation, this Italian history questions anyone who has the sacred fire of civil passion on the great themes of Peace, Justice, Progress and Freedom.
Mario Bellotti was born in 1975, Milanese by adoption but born in Pompeii and educated in the high school of Sanremo. He is an electronic engineer and head-hunter by profession. Married with three children, he is a recently converted Catholic. This is his first publication.
